Healthy GF Playdough with Sand

I am so excited for this! Scrolling on Instagram recently I found a post by georstephanie with a easy, homemade Playdough that incorporates sand, giving it such a fun and unique texture. Since my son is Gluten Free and we never use vegetable oil, I had to modify it a bit and it turned out great! Find original recipe here.

• 1 cup of sand (you can use regular or play sand)

• 1/3 cup of salt (I used regular table salt)

• 1/2 cup- 3/4 cup of all purpose GF flour

• 1 tbsp of cream of tartar

• 1 tbsp of olive oil

• 1 tbsp of coconut oil (it is optional but it makes the play dough a lot smoother)

• 3/4 cup of boiling water

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Add the sand, 1/2 cup flour, salt and cream of tartar into a bowl. Mix well

  2. Add the olive oil, coconut oil and hot water

  3. Mix well and knead for a few minutes

  4. If the dough is too soft and sticky, add 1 tbsp of GF flour at a time and knead for a few minutes, until you reach desired consistency

Notes:

  • Use a spoon/ spatula to mix and knead when you add the water to avoid burning yourself!

  • The dough is a bit oily so be prepared for that.

  • Store in an air tight container. According to georstephanie she has had this for 5 months and all she does it add a few tbsps. water if it gets dry.

Enjoy and post pictures of your little ones having fun with this awesome playdough!
