Nutrilitious Smoothie

Updated: Sep 30, 2020

OK, the name may be a little cheesy but this smoothie is both delicious and extremely nutritious! Just look at all the vitamins and minerals in there! And the below doesn't even include the broccoli sprouts or the lime and ginger kvass, which give us more nutrients and a lot of health enhancing enzymes and probiotics.

Smoothies are my favorite food to use to "hide" nutrient-dense, healthy food that my son would otherwise not eat (like broccoli sprouts, raw zucchini, greens or ginger kvass in this case).

This smoothie is pretty high in calories , which makes it a great meal, but if that's something you keep a close eye on, you can determine which ingredients you would like to reduce, by using the list below (the amounts are listed, per serving). I would encourage you to keep at least some of the coconut milk because fat helps regulate our blood sugar and help us feel full for longer. Or you can use all water and add a little bit of coconut oil.

A quick note on calorie counting: when we eat a diet made of real food, counting calories is usually not needed. Calories obtained from whole food will not be the same as calories that come from processed food; it comes down to quality. As long as you are careful not to overeat and stick to real food, you can still have the weight you desire. And you'll have much more fun this way!

Let me know in the comments below if you made this smoothie, any tips or tricks you may want to share or even your favorite smoothie recipe!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 banana

  • 1/2 cup frozen passion fruit

  • 1/2 cup frozen raspberries

  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries

  • 1 cup frozen mango

  • 1/2 cup full fat coconut milk

  • 1/4 cup kvass

  • 10 drops pure Stevia

  • 1/2 medium zucchini, cubed (wash but don't peel)

  • 1 cup read leaf lettuce (can use spinach, green leaf lettuce or Romaine lettuce)

  • 3 Tbsp. hemp seeds

  • 3 Tbsp. chia seeds

  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup sprouts (here is an easy way to make your own)

Optional:

  • 1/4 cup water (some blenders do ok without the extra water, some need it)

  • 3 tbsp collagen powder

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Add all ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth

  2. Separate in two containers and enjoy!

Notes:

  • For best results, start by adding the liquid in the blender first

  • The above quantities make enough smoothie for 2 people
